Foundation
For Social and Economic Development

The impact of pandemic as well as the rising cost of living are more impeding due to the vulnerability of the social and economic conditions of the people who live in specific neighbourhoods. On this basis, the Foundation decided to focus on investigating and learning about creation of food gardens and promote an educational process that would help enhance capacity of family groups to work together to establish the gardens to address food security. This is in line with Foundation's educational efforts that are aimed at helping local populations become protagonists of the development of their communities.
Neighbourhood food gardens are viewed as a robust food system in circumstances where social and economic pressures and numerous resource limitations persist. Home gardening has led to nutritional benefits for families by increasing the availability of carbohydrates as well as nutrient-rich vegetables and fruits that are not economically accessible for families. Through establishment of family groups within the neighbourhood, bonds of solidarity are strengthened thereby building a culture in which everyone feels they can contribute enhance household food security and nutrition.

How support is provided

Promote: Community food gardens initiatives in each family group.
Demonstration: Neighbourhood food gardens will be created as example plots for family groups of how their gardens can be created and maintained.
Education: Knowledge is harmoniously blended, mixing family's wisdom of growing food in backyard gardens with modern knowledge, science of growing food.
